In the early 1980s, Tho Ha villagers turned to making dry pancakes and raising animals as pottery was gradually abandoned. Discover the authentic rural life with visit to Tho Ha traditional village
9.00 Pick up at your hotel and head for Bac Giang province, it takes over one hour, while we pass through Bac Ninh, the hometown of the famous folk music Quan Ho which has been sung by the local people here for nearly a thousand years. Good chance for sightseeing the countryside scenery, farmers are working on the green field with water buffalo.. Crossing Cau River by local ferry, we will walk around to visit local families of Tho Ha village and learn more about the local culture, have talk and see the local with their daily works.
Discover Tho Ha village through narrow and zigzag alleys with the old houses had been constructed from broken part of terracotta from the past. Walking over village cemetery to the dike, where you can see the village from distance over the beautiful lake. Tho Ha is now known for rice wine or cassava wine and rice paper cakes, and most recently the village’s special brick walls have attracted many film producers, painters, photographers.
Have lunch at a local host and then moving to visit one pottery family and workshop. Tho Ha pottery used to be fired with dry grass, and then firewood and coal, see things remained from this traditional pottery producing village.
Driving back Hanoi, we stop to visit Dong Ky wood carving village. Originally, carpentry was a side hobby for the inhabitants of Dong Ky. However, poverty forced the villagers to concentrate their skills on this occupation. The some 12,000 residents now prosper from their trade with the increasing demand from hotels, restaurants, and exporters for their quality, hand carved furniture and crafts. The wood work here is also famous for its meticulously inlaid mother of pearl. After visiting Dong Ky village, we head back to your hotel in Hanoi.
